Winter Session of Parliament: PM Modi Meets Bengal BJP MPs, Opposition Protests Outside
On the third day of the winter session of Parliament, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met BJP MPs from West Bengal at 11 am on Wednesday, ahead of the proceedings in both Houses. During the interaction, he told the MPs that there is a need to engage more with the public regarding the current situation in the state.
The Prime Minister said that whatever is happening on the ground must be strongly opposed. He also advised the MPs to prepare detailed presentations for the 2026 Assembly elections and to complete groundwork related to political planning and public outreach.
Modi further told them that incidents such as the attack on BJP MP Khagen Murmu should be highlighted effectively so that people can understand how violence is being encouraged under the Trinamool Congress leadership.
On the other hand, Congress MPs, including Sonia Gandhi and party president Mallikarjun Kharge, along with other opposition leaders, staged a protest outside Parliament at the Makar Dwar against the new labour laws. Some opposition MPs even wore gas masks to draw attention to the issue of air pollution in Delhi.
Inside the Lok Sabha, proceedings began smoothly at 11 am without interruptions. For the first time in this winter session, Question Hour was conducted without any disruption. The opposition had been demanding a discussion on the SIR issue for the past two days.
In a multi-party meeting held on Tuesday under the chairmanship of Speaker Om Birla, a consensus was reached. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju informed that a special discussion on 150 years of ‘Vande Mataram’ will be held on November 8, and a debate on ‘electoral reforms’ has been scheduled for November 9.
