Defeat of Naxalites in Bastar! Big decision of the government, this district removed from LWE

The ongoing campaign against Naxalism in Chhattisgarh is now gradually having an effect. Another district of Bastar division has now been removed from the list of ‘Left Wing Extremism’ (LWE).
This decision has been confirmed by Bastar Collector Harish S himself. He told that Bastar district has now been removed from the list of LWE districts and put in the list of ‘Legacy District’.
According to the Bastar Collector, after the district was removed from the LWE list, the special grant received from the Central Government from 2025 has also been stopped. The district got the benefit of this fund till March 2025, but now it has been stopped from April 2025. Its objective is that now development works will be given priority directly in this area, so that the public can get better facilities and the remaining roots of Naxalism can also be eradicated.

5 districts in LWE list

There are a total of 7 districts in Bastar division – Bastar, Dantewada, Bijapur, Sukma, Narayanpur, Kondagaon and Kanker. There was a time when all the districts were Naxal-affected, but now only 5 of these districts are left in the LWE list. Bastar and Kanker are now considered Naxal-free. Along with this, other districts of Chhattisgarh Rajnandgaon, Kawardha, and Khairagarh-Chhuikhadan-Gandai have also already been removed from the LWE list.

Rapidly increasing security and development steps

Camps have now been set up in areas like Lohandiguda, Mardoom, Kaknar, Machkot, Tiriya, Darbha, Koleng, and Tulsidongri. Two new camps have been opened in Jheeram Valley of Darbha, while a police station has also been opened in Mardoom. This is giving clear indication that now Bastar is rapidly moving towards peace and development.

What is LWE?

LWE i.e. ‘Left Wing Extremism’ is an extremist ideology, which is associated with Maoist or leftist violent movements. Districts affected by these groups who take up arms against the government are put in the LWE list. These areas are provided special funds, schemes and resources for security and development.

Why is coming out of LWE special?

A district coming out of the LWE list is a positive sign. It means that Naxalite incidents have happened there, people are joining the mainstream and the grip of the administration is getting stronger. This change is the result of the trust of the public and the dedication of the security forces.
