Sad News, IED Blast, Konta/District Sukma, 09 June 2025

Shri Akash Rao Girpunje, Additional Superintendent of Police – Konta Division, District Sukma, was martyred today morning on 09 June due to IED blast near Dondra on Konta-Errabora road.

Additional SP Shri Akash Rao, Deputy Superintendent of Police Konta Shri Bhanupratap Chandrakar, Inspector Shri Sonal Gavla and other jawans were on foot patrol duty to investigate the incident of burning of vehicle by Naxalites in the area.

During the search operation, IED blast took place in which Shri Akash Rao Girpunje (Additional SP Konta), Shri Bhanupratap Chandrakar (Sub-Divisional Police Officer, Konta) and Inspector Shri Sonal Gavla (Station Incharge, Konta) were injured.

All the injured were brought to Konta Hospital for initial treatment. Shri Akash Rao Girpunje was seriously injured due to the direct impact of the IED. Shri Akash Rao succumbed to his injuries and attained martyrdom during the treatment.

Shri Akash Rao Girpunje, 42, hailed from Raipur district and was a direct recruit DSP of 2013 batch. He was serving as Additional Superintendent of Police, Konta since the year 2024. He was one of the bravest warriors of Chhattisgarh Police who served in LWE affected areas like Manpur-Mohla and Sukma.

The other injured officers – Shri Bhanupratap Chandrakar (Sub-Divisional Police Officer, Konta) and Inspector Shri Sonal Gavla (Station Incharge, Konta) are currently out of danger and are being airlifted to a higher medical facility for better treatment.

The mortal remains of Shri Akash Rao Girpunje are being brought to Raipur for last rites and guard of honour.

The Chhattisgarh government, police headquarters, all citizens and the police family stand firmly with the family of martyr Akash Rao Girpunje in this hour of grief. His sacrifice will further strengthen our commitment to completely destroy a cruel and conspiratorial organization like the CPI (Maoist).
