Shahbaz Sharif once more threatened; the situation of conflict between India and Pakistan may have spiraled dangerously.
India turned down Pakistan PM Shahbaz Sharif’s offer of an objective inquiry into the attack. Pakistan had claimed to have done.
On Thursday, May 22, 2025, Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif described the Pahalgam terrorist incident as “unfortunate” and said that the state of conflict between Pakistan and India would have turned really dangerously. Under “Operation Sindoor,” India destroyed nine terrorism facilities in Pakistan and its seized Kashmir late on May 6, 2025.
On May 8, 9, and 10 following India’s actions, Pakistan aimed to attack Indian military installations. Then the Indian Army responded on Pakistani military sites. Four days of strife between the two sides resulted in an agreement to halt military activity on May 10.
“Situation could have turned dangerously.”
“The Pahalgam incident was unfortunate, but the situation of war between the two countries could have taken a very dangerous turn at any time,” Shahbaz said during an event hosted in Muzaffarabad, Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). Under this initiative, he gave cheques for compensation to the relatives of the civilian casualties and military battle dead.
India turned down Pakistan’s offer, while Shahbaz stated that the country had conducted a fair inquiry on the attack. “Pakistan was ready for an international investigation into the Pahalgam incident, but instead of agreed to this, India attacked Pakistan, which was given a befitting reply,” he said.
Asim Munir produced Field Marshal
Shahbaz said Pakistan had exacted revenge for its loss in the 1971 conflict. Following the 1971 conflict between India and Pakistan, Pakistan was split and a new nation known as Bangladesh emerged out of it—formerly known as East Pakistan. Furthermore mentioned by the Prime Minister was the fact that the Pakistani army solely attacked military installations.
Shahbaz Sharif had agreed to name Army Chief General Asim Munir Field Marshal one day earlier. Promoting General Munir was decided upon in a cabinet conference presided over by Prime Minister Shahbaz. After General Ayub Khan, Munir is the first Army General raised to the highest military grade in Pakistan. In 1959 General Khan received Field Marshal rank.
