CBSE students will not get a chance in state games, SGFI’s big decision
Student players of CBSE schools across the country including Chhattisgarh have got a big setback. Now they will not be able to participate in block, district, division and state level school sports competitions organized by the state government.
The School Games Federation of India (SGFI) has recognized CBSE as an independent sports unit. Due to this this decision has been taken.
CBSE students will not participate in state games
This rule will come into effect from the session 2025-26. This means that now the players of CBSE schools will not be able to showcase their skills at the state level. They will be able to directly participate only in the national competitions organized by SGFI. But this platform gives very limited opportunities, which will affect the future of many players. Many promising players of Bilaspur, who have performed brilliantly at the district and division level in the past years, will now be affected by this change. They will now depend only on the national competitions of SGFI to showcase their talent.
Decision of School Games Federation of India
Actually, in 2024-25, SGFI included CBSE as an independent unit in its 68th National Competition. At that time CBSE’s own sports structure was not fully ready, so the state government gave them temporary exemption in the interest of the students. But now CBSE has prepared its independent sports structure and on the basis of that, the Chhattisgarh School Education Department has excluded CBSE students from state level games.
Students will be able to participate in national level competitions
It is also clearly written on the official website of SGFI that CBSE board students participated independently in the 2024-25 competition and also won medals. This means that CBSE is now able to organize its own competitions under the supervision of SGFI.
Now CBSE board students will not be able to participate in state level school games. SGFI has considered them as independent units, so that now they will be able to play only in national level competitions. This decision can affect many promising players.
